Rotate Auto

 Rotate Auto

Add a “Rotate auto” option* to Windows context menu for automatic rotation of vertically oriented JPG photos. Select any number of photos and/or folders to process simultaneously.

Rotate Auto reads the Exif orientation tag value in your photos and, utilizing a lossless JPEG algorithm to avoid any image degradation, pixel rotates your photos accordingly. Rotate Auto preserves photo metadata and regenerates the embedded thumbnail to reflect the new orientation.

  • Your antivirus software must allow you to install software.
  • Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may require you to click “More info” and “Run anyway” during installation.

FYI — Windows 10 and 11 read the embedded Exif orientation tag value (if present in a JPG photo) only to display vertical photos upright. Photos are not actually pixel rotated by Windows.

The existing Rotate right and Rotate left context menu options also only modify the orientation tag value and do not actually pixel rotate the photo!

It is always best to pixel rotate vertical photos so that they will display properly in Google Earth Pro (which does not recognize orientation tags) and all other applications.

*In Windows 11 you need to first select “Show more options” to access the “Rotate auto” option.
